Luxuriously Clean Body Care Routine
So many products on the market claim to give us super soft, clean skin. Many of them smell divine and do just that. But what if that soft skin and the divine fragrance were actually costing you more than just money? What if I told you that many of the staples our grandmothers and mothers swore by are actually pretty toxic? I mean, like, really toxic! That’s right, it may be time to ditch those old products and find clean body care alternatives.
Since the US has a very low standard of what’s considered safe to use in cosmetic and personal care products, the shelves at most commercial stores are filled with questionable ingredients.Things like America’s favorite beauty bar are laden with chemicals that might seem gentle on the skin but can lead to long-term health issues.
If that famous white beauty bar isn’t an option for beautiful, glowy skin, what is?
Now, of course, as a dark-skinned woman, it is imperative that I avoid ashiness. So, I know a thing or two about what makes a good body care product.
Since I’ve spent the last couple of years switching my personal care products to non-toxic items, I’ve had some time to experiment, so you don’t have to.
We should be able to treat ourselves with things that feel good and are good for us. Consider this your guide to treating yourself to a luxe, non-toxic body care routine.
Non-Toxic Moisturizing Body Washes
An effective clean body care routine starts in the shower. The right body wash has a decent lather without the drying sulfates and fragrance.
Recently I stumbled upon Natrium at Target, and I’m hooked! I’ve tried their Vitamin C Brightening Body Wash and the Soother Sensitive Skin Body Wash. Both left my skin feeling super soft!
If you shop their site directly, you can buy bundles of the body wash and lotion together. And trust me, you’ll want to stock up on these.
Clean Body Scrubs
Body scrubs are an essential part of a lavish bath or shower routine. The key is to find a scrub with a heavenly scent that’s not made from synthetic fragrances. It’s also nice when the scrub leaves behind some moisture but isn’t too greasy.
That’s where Beautycounter’s Sugarbuff Body Polish checks all the boxes. It has a nice scent that’s not too overpowering. And it leaves behind some moisturizer without making you overly oily.
Non-Toxic Body Butter
Now for the finale: the moisturizer. You’ve probably already read my post about body lotions. But for a more sumptuous experience, I go for body butter.
I recently tried the body butter from Beautycounter and was very impressed. It’s rich, creamy and has a light fragrance without being overpowering. I also appreciate that it absorbs well, so you can even use it in the daytime.
Another favorite of mine is Divine Clementine Bath and Body’s Butter in Lavender. It’s ultra-rich and perfect for slugging. If you’re unfamiliar with the term slugging, it’s simply slathering a rich moisturizer all over your body.
Other Items for you body care routine
Now, if you really want to make your bath and body routine next-level luxe, here are some extra touches to make your experience even more nourishing.
Shower filter:
Cotton towels:
Towel warmer:
The best part about all of these items is that they can be incorporated into your body care routine day or night. You can also do your routine as quickly or as slowly as you need to, either giving yourself an express treatment or truly basking in the luxury.
In the comments, have you already switched your body care products out for products with safer ingredients?
